Event Includes Free Barbecue, Kidz Zone, Health Expo and Cornhole Tournament

The Virginia Association of Addiction Professionals, in partnership with The Farley Center of Williamsburg will host Mobilize Recovery-Williamsburg on Saturday, September 16th from 12-3 at New Quarter Park on Lakeshead Drive, Williamsburg. The event, is part of Mobilize Recovery, a nationwide annual experience that brings participants together to build capacity for organized community engagement for people in recovery, family members, and recovery allies. Its mission is to expand policy to support recovery, create connections to supportive services that are vital and lifesaving, and to engage affected individuals in meaningful action.

The Williamsburg event is free and will include a barbecue, a cornhole tournament, a Kidz Zone, a Yorktown firetruck, and a health expo with more than a dozen vendors offering free screenings, prizes, give-away merchandise, chair massages, health surveys and more.

“Mobilize Recovery – Williamsburg gives us the opportunity to celebrate people living in recovery and reducing stigma for those that need recovery,” said Jessica Swan, event organizer and Founder of the nonprofit, Recovery Consulting. “Together we can make a difference in how we treat substance use disorder SUD and how we respond as a society to people’s needs. Having a health expo combined with family- and kid-friendly fun and games as well as delicious food is a great way to come together and help people in recovery return to a sense of belonging and feel embraced by the community.”

“Although most people have been affected in some way by substance use disorder, you don’t have to be in recovery or have a family member in recovery to be a part of the event,” said Chris Weirtz, Director of Business Development for The Farley Center. “Everyone can play a role in showing support to those with substance use disorder. And what a better way to do that than to come to a fun event meant to celebrate their success in recovery.”
